The aftermath of The Dawning brings with it a blah case of the week leaving the relationship stuff to rescue an otherwise memorable episode.

Let’s bitch it out…

Case of the week: Easily the worst part of the episode is the lame-o case of the week involving a series of fatal attacks on juvenile Fae kids at a summer camp by what appears to be a guy in a stick monster costume. It’s dull, poorly executed and so easily resolved (smoke and a haircut? Wow…that’s kinda pathetic) that it feels like an afterthought. The only remotely interesting aspect is when Nelson attacks Lauren (Zoie Palmer), though it’s really more of a catalyst to bring her and Bo (Anna Silk) together for the break-up chat

Feelings, Feelings, Feelings! Soooo…the moment that all Doccubus fans have been dreading for weeks has arrived as the couple decides to “take a break.” And despite Bo’s assertion that it is only temporary, there’s a pretty heavy note of finality to the proceedings (packing up belongings, shots at the bar, reminiscing with the competition). I have a feeling that this won’t go over well with fans, and rightly so, because this break-up does not feel earned. Had it happened in another way, perhaps the story would be different because the pair has clearly been on the outs for several episodes, but for Lauren to simply suggest that she’s tired and unhappy and doesn’t believe that Bo can give her back as much as she needs? It feels weak. Perhaps a reunion is in the books for later, but for now, consider them dunso

Terminate the star-powered guests-spots already: 1) Despite Tamsin’s (Rachel Skarsten) claim that Acacia has never looked better, let’s all be honest and agree that Linda Hamilton looks her age 2) Her role is silly and dull. Like the much-hyped Lauren Holly guest-spot last year, there’s absolutely no reason why this particular role is suited for a “star” as it feels completely unmemorable. It seriously could have been played by anyone…or at least a good hand model considering how Acacia ends up (gift wrapped?)

Mythology, smythology: Hope you weren’t expecting anything too exciting to occur post-Dawning as Bo has a few blue-eyed moments to bookend the episode. Aside from that, she almost seems more inept as she’s unable to handle Jolene in battle and needs Dyson to rescue her. On the slightly positive side is further developments with Tamsin’s side job as a bounty hunter. While the A-crew are solving the Camp Crystal Lake murders, blondey is out plucking hairs and stirring up shit. For now it remains a tease as we don’t know who or what to expect now that everything is in the bottle. I’m guessing that’s season finale talk!

Other Observations:

• Your Anna Silk pregnancy watch is in full effect: this week’s episode features incredibly loose and unflattering short shorts
• Just in case you were keeping track, that’s no Hale (KC Collins) again this week. And Trick (Rick Howlands) gets a few crappy lines? Boooooo
• Best part of the episode is when Lauren raises her hand when Kenzi (Ksenia Solo) inquires who knows how to build a pipe-bomb. A much needed moment of genuine levity
• On the plus side, Lauren has some lovely Blair Witch inspired wood work hangings in her apartment. Tres, tres chic

Best Lines:

• Lauren (when Kenzi wonders what has gotten into Bo): “The important thing is that she’s still our Bo, right?”
• Acacia (to Tamsin): “Bitch, do I look like a wizard?”
• Bo (after hearing how to kill the monster): “Translation: we smoke it out and give it a make-over.”
