Is it finally time to come out of our Spring slumber to watch Summer blockbusters?
Let’s bitch it out…
Yes, folks, the time has arrived. With the premiere of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, the summer blockbuster season has already begun. If you yearn for the smart, sophisticated movies that win awards, this is probably the worst time of the year, but if you want big, expensive (often dumb) movies with lots of explosions and even more green screens, this weekend kicks everything into high gear.

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (Wide)
- Cast: Chris Pratt (Her), Zoe Saldana (Colombiana), Kurt Russell (Overboard)
- Official Synopsis: The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mysteries of Peter Quill (Pratt)’s true parentage.
- Good for fans of: Chris Pratt, joking while dying, aliens, raccoons and trees teaming up
- Is it worth your time? The reviews for Vol. 2 aren’t quite as sparkling as they were for the first film, which got high praise for eschewing some of the more mundane Marvel conventions. If Vol. 2 isn’t quite as fresh or funny, it still sounds like a great time at the movies, particularly if you enjoyed the first one. Plus: as the only wide release this weekend, what else are you going to watch?
That’s it for this weekend. Next weekend: Guy Ritchie’s bastardization of the Knights of the Round Table, King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, debuts, along with Amy Schumer and Goldie Hawn’s unfunny looking mother-daughter kidnapping comedy, Snatched. See you then!
