After the reveal of a new ‘bad guy’ in last week’s episode, we don’t hear mention of her at all this week. Instead, this week is dedicated to family matters as the brothers reunite without their mother. Who will make it out alive from this reunion?
Let’s bitch it out…
First and foremost, I must begin with the love between my two favourite brothers, Klaus (Joseph Morgan) and Elijah (Daniel Gillies). If you’ve been following these reviews, you know that the relationship between these two is what draws me in to the show. It’s really the driving factor behind the show itself and the chemistry (simmer down, I don’t mean that kind of chemistry) between the brothers is played impeccably. I mean, Esther (Sonja Sohn) put Elijah under a spell that would cause him to wake up and want to renounce his vampire lifestyle in favour of one with her. It was magic, and she had even gone so far as to ensure Klaus couldn’t get in to his brother’s thoughts. But GUESS WHAT! Klaus found a way to bring his brother back and keep them together. Because he was right – the monster in Elijah balances out the monster in him and they need each other. I mean… my heart was warming just watching. Almost makes me forget I’m watching a show about murderous vampires and supernatural beings.
Another one that made me forget about what I was watching is Kol/Kaleb (Daniel Sharman), which is really saying something considering him and Davina (Danielle Campbell) were actually doing magic or talking about magic the entire episode. But wow. That girl must have superhuman willpower to resist this guy. If he talked to me the way he’s talking to her, well I would forget my own name. He takes charm to a whole other level. But then you have to look at the whole family because they’ve all got charm in spades. I suppose its something you can pick up when you’ve spent a thousand years around people. We’re simple creatures really. And this kid has Davina eating out of the palm of his hand without even breaking a sweat.
Okay. I’ve been procrastinating by talking about how lovely the brotherhood is and how hot Kaleb is because I’m not totally sure how I feel about Klaus killing his father. I get it. Ansel (Lloyd Owen) knew about baby Hope being alive and the baby is at risk if anyone knows. I also get that Klaus has known this guy all of two seconds and he’s being expected to trust Ansel with the one greatest secret of his entire thousand years. So I understand what he had to do and why he had to do it. But I’m still sad. They seemed to be finding some common ground together. So imagine if they had all the time in the world to spend together. Maybe Klaus would’ve been a different person because of his father. Maybe he would’ve wanted to just be a wolf. Who knows.
But what I do know is that it would be completely out of character for Klaus to trust this guy. The one thing Klaus always wanted was a father who actually loved him. His mother thought that if she gave Klaus another parent that wanted him, it would prove to him that he was wanted all along. Well guess that backfired, didn’t it? I almost don’t even feel bad for what she had to see at the end of the episode because she kind of brought it on herself by toying with everyone’s emotions and bringing people back from the dead like that. Because the message here isn’t that Ansel wanted him all along, its that Ansel didn’t want him enough when it would have mattered. And as a result, the Mikaelsons have spent a thousand years running from the father they did have. So yes, I’m sad for Klaus that he had to kill a father that seemed to actually like him and probably would’ve been a good influence on him. However, this guy was a threat to the baby. And the baby is what matters.
- Just when I thought Cami (Leah Pipes) was going to be a useful part of the team, even as a human, she goes and gets herself kidnapped by the all powerful witch. Really? They had this whole complicated plot to trap Finn (Yusuf Gatewood) but they didn’t think mama bear would notice when her cub didn’t return home? So that decided it was a good idea to leave Cami alone? Chalk this one up to everyone dropping the ball while basking in their win. Oh well, it just gives Klaus an opportunity to rescue Cami and gives us some more sexual tension between them.
- Sooo… are we supposed to be out on the Elijah/Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) relationship and rooting for Hayley/Jack (Nathan Parsons) now? (And since when does Hayley use all these nicknames for her werewolf friends!?) Or are we going back to a love triangle situation? Cause I for one am kinda tired of those already.
So do you think Klaus will come to Cami’s rescue from his mother next week? Do you think Elijah will be able to get passed all the memories of his past misdeeds? What do you think Klaus and Elijah will do with their brothers? Sound off below!
The Originals airs on Mondays at 8pm EST on The CW.
